The NTF was pleased to be title sponsor of the HEROS’ Charity Race at Windsor Racecourse on Saturday 27th August 2016. The Windsor Race meeting is a major fundraiser for HEROS 10th anniversary.
HEROS is dedicated to ensuring ex-racehorses have a safe and secure future. Now, with support from the NTF, The Racing Foundation and others, HEROS is extending its work in support of education and training to help tackle the racing industry staffing shortage.
Shelley Perham, NTF recruitment and training co-ordinator said: “We’re delighted to sponsor the HEROS Charity Race. As well as being a great supporter of HEROS work with retired racehorses we aim to build an education programme with the charity. We’re confident this is the start of extended collaborative efforts with the HEROS team.”
In ten years, over 600 horses have been re-trained and rehomed by HEROS. Income is tight but HEROS has received grants from The Racing Foundation and a contribution to the cost of re-homing some vulnerable ex-racehorses from the Retraining of Racehorses (RoR). Other income is generated from fundraising activities, sponsorship and donations from the public.
HEROS is supported by a Board of Trustees, Patrons, Ambassadors (such as Victoria Pendleton, John Francome and Richard Hughes) and Volunteers, and works in partnership with Racing Welfare and other charitable providers.
