Corticosteroid stand-down is not a withdrawal or detection time

Trainers will be aware that the BHA rules of racing Manual B Schedule 3 provides (at 11A) that a horse must not have been administered any intra-articular corticosteroid on a race day or any of the 14 days before a race day.

It is important to note that this 14-day period should not, however, be relied upon as a withdrawal period and trainers are advised to speak to their vet to ascertain what corticosteroid is being used and to take specific advice upon the withdrawal period for that medication.  The withdrawal time will vary depending upon the corticosteroid used and may also be longer if the horse has had repeated injections.
